Dear EGREPA 2010 participants,
On behalf of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports, Charles University, Prague I am proud to be able to welcome you to the 12th Congress of the EGREPA, to be held in Prague, Czech Republic, September 23-25, 2010.
Aging is one of the great enigmas of life. Apart from birth and death, it is perhaps the only experience that every human being shares. As ubiquitous as aging is, no one fully understands it. Although all people age, they do so in different ways and at different rates. Some people live longer and have a higher quality of life than others.
The basis of gerontology and thus the topics of our Congress is the study of these differences, their causes, and the factors that amplify or attenuate them. The length of time or quantity of life, that people live is easily measured. On the other side the qualitative assessment of the aging like a bio-psycho-social process is more complicated. The central theme of the Congress will be the non-pharmacological influence of seniors life quality. The main tools are physical activities that accept the actual state of the old subjects.
The 12th Congress program will feature theoretical, applied and cross-disciplinary aging studies as well as research findings based on the natural, behavioural, social and human scientific disciplines.
Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic and is situated in the centre of Europe, and is a crossing of cultural, economical, spiritual influence from west to east and north to south. The Charles University is the oldest university beyond the Alps, it was established in 1348.
At the end of September, the participants will experience the late summer in Prague, the most beautiful period of the whole year.
I am looking very much forward to welcoming you to a congress with a high quality scientific program in an exciting urban and natural setting.
Welcome to Prague in 2010
Vaclav Bunc
President, 12th EGREPA Congress
